Remember your color?!

So, what did you think of the four-color exercise? Was it helpful in thinking about your own way of thinking about the world and your own gifts and talents? Hopefully it also helped you recognize that others have their own way of approaching information and people and that it is not always personal-it is just the way they are hard-wired.

There is an article on blackboard under course documents/blog readings about how GE decided to create a marketing department. GE had never had a formal marketing department and decided that engineering was not enough--they needed marketers to help them sell their products and went about developing this department in a very systematic manner.

Using the 4 colors we learned about on Monday, these are the types of marketing folks they decided they need. Do these describe you, based on the color you were Monday night?

  1. I really enjoyed the four-color exercise we did on Monday night. I found it very interesting and my color really did reflect my personality. I realize there are different types of people in the world, but this exercise really did put it into a better perspective for me.

One Monday night I was found out to be a "yellow" person. Looking at the Marketer's DNA that GE came up with I would only fall under the category of the integrators. I do not think I fall into any other category than that.

  2. Casey,
When you look at what GE thinks marketers who are yellow can do, do those look like skills you have?

  3. I also enjoyed the color exercise from class. In class I was a "green" person. Looking at the GE chart I think that I fit into their definition of being an instigator. I do find myself trying to find new ways (usually quicker ways) of doing things. I also see myself as a bit of someone who "challenges the status quo." I think that I'm a very creative person and I always try to create my way of doing things. I think overall my color describes me fairly well.

  4. I really enjoyed the activity from last week. I was more helpful than I had expected. It helped me understand why I work the way I do in both personal and professional settings. I was also a yellow, I feel that I fall under the integrator, I think that I communicate well with others to work out conflicts

  5. I am a green with red tendencies. In every job I have had, during training I have always thought to myself "there are better ways of doing this" and once trained, found myself trying to improve processes to make them better or more efficient. I will say that I was met either with resistance ("this is the way it is done", "this isn't your job", or "we don't have the time or funds to bother") or complete apathy about making any changes for the better("yeah, wouldn't that be nice" or "this system works fine"). Still, I found small ways of making changes that were eventually adopted or at least acknowledged, and luckily, with a strong red personality, I was able to implement myself!

  6. I've known about different personality types, different learning types, different working types. Last Monday's exercise put yet another spin on it for me.

If I were to go strictly by the definitions I'd have to say I was more "Red." But given what was written on the cards Red was the farthest thing from my personality. Last Monday I fell squarely in the middle of green/yellow. I do fall in these categories. Over the years, I've learned to accept status quo, to not challenge authority, thus I developed the yellow personality. It is only lately that I find myself exploring different ways to make things work.

The cards were very helpful translating the definitions. As such, they were much more helpful to me discovering who I am.

  7. I enjoyed the four colour excersise it was uber fun and I think that the results fit me nicely~ I think that it was interesting to categories my talents/gifts that I could use when employed by a company/or to use in my own company. I was a green with a couple of yellow cards.... Which I think fits me becasue I am creative (that the one thing I got going for me) and then im uber considerate and love to make people feel better.... So I guess that is where some of the yellow comes into play. Acoording to this GE ‘Marketer’s DNA’ I am a Instigator and I think that I do somewhat fit this mold.... Except I am not all about making things efficient.... Im more so about creating new ideals and options and things of that nature... I think I fit a little into the integrator as well...

  8. I enjoyed the four color excercise that we did! It was interesting to see myself in that sort of aspect. I believe I was a green person and therefore I'm an instigator. Which I can kind of see lol. I do like to change things around a bit.

  9. When we did this exercise my top colors with Blue and Red. The traits on my cards matched up almost perfectly with my personality and work ethic. I am all about getting things done and seeing results, something that was reflected in all of my cards. According to this publication GE classifies blue as Innovators. I would agree with their description in terms of marketing- turning ideas into products. Even at Chick-fil-A I always find myself on the operational side of making marketing ideas happen. This publication also classifies red as Implementors or people who like to get things done. Like I said earlier, this describes me perfectly. I am impatient and do not like to sit aorund and toss around ideas. I would rather decide quickly and start making sure it is getting done fast, efficient, and well.

  10. I thought our color exercise very useful and really helped us in making our groups. I was in the blue and red category and honestly this activity and results reminded me our LeaderShape all over again. I don't think they could have described me any better; when I am doing a task or project I want to get the job do. I want to know who is doing what, when, where, and how, and what their deadline will be. I thought it was very interesting working in our goups with the different and just rememebering what color my members were really help me communicate and follow up with them. I also don't like to sit around on the outside; I like to get my hands dirdy and get the job done.
