I found a new video I just had to share with you today. If you saw the Superbowl commercials, you might remember the VW commercial with the little boy who thought he was Darth Vader and who could make the family's VW turn on with his powers.
Read through this article from Brand Channel and look at the video from Greenpeace and let me know what you think about this.
Is Greenpeace going about this the right way?
Do they have a good point about CO2 emissions?
Should they be picking on VW?
Will consumers care enough to stay about from VWs?
1. I think that the ad is creative since they are playing off VW's original ad with the Darth Vader kid. However, I don't think it's right for Greenpeace to publicly attack another company. It's almost like the campaign videos with politicians attacking one another and I've never liked commercials like that. I think it would be more effective had Greenpeace created a commercial explaining why opposing cuts to C02 emissions is harmful for the environment.
ReplyDelete2. I do think they have a good point about C02 emissions it's just getting that point out in an effective way instead of attacking other companies. It doesn't make them look professional by going after other companies. They also attacked Mattel because their Barbie packing is destroying rain forests (there was a link to this ad and article in this article). Again their message was good to try and find a more "green" packaging to avoid cutting down rain forests yet going after Barbie in the commercial wasn't really the way they should have gone about getting their message across.
3. I don't think they should have picked on VW specifically, I'm sure there are other companies (even if they aren't as widely known as VW) who also oppose the cuts. I think had Greenpeace created an ad and then mentioned companies opposing cuts would have been better than just singling out VW.
4. I think VW consumers who love VW are not going to stop buying VW because of the commercials. I also think that because VW has been known for so long and generally make good cars I don't think their business will be hurt by the ads. The only business I really see them loosing or not gaining is from people who are really into and dedicated to saving the planet.
1. I think Greenpeace is going about this in a smart way. They know that if they attack vw publicly they are more likely to get the attention of vw executives and the consumers. Which will hopefully result in a change.
ReplyDelete2. I believe they do have a good point about co2 emissions. We have been slowly destroying our planet for many years and now it's time to make steps in correcting the damage.
3. I agree vw is not the only company out there that is refusing to cut co2 emission but Greenpeace is using them as an example. Maybe other companies that are refusing the cut will see how Greenpeace is attacking vw and make the change for fear they are next.
4. I believe this will not change everyones mind about vw but it will change enough people that it would force vw to change their ways.
1) I cannot see the video that GreenPeace posted it was taken down. But I got the jist of it from the article and I would say that they are making a interesting approach to their comapaign on CO2 emissions.
ReplyDelete2) It is confirmed that CO2 emissions are hurting the Earth.
3) I think they should pick on car companies who don't have a hybrid. Whether VW does or not, I don't know
4) I think consumers will change enough that VW will have to be mroe eco-friendly
Personally, I think they have a very good point about CO2. I think them using the Jedis to symbolize their group is kind of creative. At the same time though, I do not think they should be attacking just VW. If they are going to complain about the CO2, than they need to talk about all of the makers in the car industry using CO2, not just VW. I don’t think this will hurt VW enough to where customers refuse to buy a VW, but I do think this may make people a little more cautious when looking at them.
