The "click and send" advantage of video marketing

The "Click and Send" Advantage
As an intern at Keller Williams Realty, I attended numerous seminars on video marketing. Did you know that today only 1% of Real Estate agents are using video marketing? For this reason, it is an obvious advantage to video market yourself, or your business (not just in the Real Estate industry). An even better reason to video market....The "click and send" advantage! Video-sharing communities like "YouTube" provides viewers with simple buttons that allow you to e-mail, facebook, or tweet your favorite videos. I know everyone has seen the hilarious E-Trade commercials on TV that feature talking babies... E-Trade eventually got their own "YouTube channel" and some of their commercial/videos have over 2 million views!! Talk about a video marketing success story!

About this video:
The link above is our first attempt at video marketing which I created during the internship. Our goal was to make the video informational, but also fun, so that people would want to "click and send" it to their friends. The idea is that for each listing we create a character that resembles the home we are marketing. In this video "Miss Sparkles", a loud, and opinionated diva, is looking for a home that fits her personality. Therefore, we decided to have her look at a brand new home with upgraded features. Feel free to look at my other video marketing projects at www.youtube.com/kristinesells

Questions:

1. If you were video marketing for your particular job (or dream job) would you take a comical or serious approach in your videos? Why?

2. What benefits does video marketing have over TV/radio marketing? (besides the ease of sending)

3. In reference to the video I posted, did this make you more or less interested in finding out more about this home and real estate agent?

  1. i liked the video i thought that it was original
1)if i were video marketing for my dream job of owning my own fashion line/company i would use both an comical(or i should say youthful, playful, creative, weird) approach and a serious approach. Because if i had my dream fashion line i would have a higher end line (like'The Row' or 'Marc Jacobs) and for that i would use the serious approach. And then i would also have a Bridgeline ('Marc by Marc Jacobs' 'Elizabeth and James')with an edgy look, and for this line i would use the playful unique crazy approach. i'd use both techniques because i feel like it is what is appropriate for each line.
2)i think some benefits of video marketing is that it worldwide, TV commercials are only shown in so many countries. Example-We never see Japanese commercials (unfortunately)here in the US. SO i think the real benefit is the amount of people you can reach all around the world.
3)Well not really... i liked the video but for me it was a little long, and i didn't really pay attention to the house or the real estate agent, they didn't really catch my eye. but as suggestion, i would get more to the point. the character was funny, but i thought that the character could have been more outrageous and crazy to catch more peoples attention.(is peoples a word? i suck at english)what i wanted to know about the house was the price and location, and the agent's background, i got the agent personality but i don't know her strengths (like is better suited for new house buyers, or for those who are looking for million-dollar houses?) and stuff like that.
**** i didn't mean any ill-feelings Chelsea towards your video- i liked it, i was just trying to give advice(that you of course, don't have to listen to :) because your video did not make me more interested in your product.

  2. Thank you for your feedback! It was our first video, so it was certainly a learning process for us! We didn't feature the detailed information about the house/agent because we want people to go to the link (at the bottom of the video) or contact the agent herself to get more information. By going to the website, it prompts visitors to enter their name and e-mail address, so they are automatically put in her database as interested persons. However, I will let her know that you think we should put a little more information about the house in the video, I think its a good idea! Thanks again!

  3. I think that when doing video marketing it is important to maintain a certain level of seriousness so that your company will be taken seriously, but also to include a little bit of humor as well in order to grab people’s attention. It is important to have the right balance, too serious and people won’t pay attention, too funny and people may disregard you. I also think that video marketing is an overall great approach. I feel like the internet receives way more traffic than the television or the radio so your ad is more likely to receive more attention, which is more effectively promoting your business. This video was a little in between for me. It did make me want to find out more about this real estate agency but mostly because I see that a girl from our class is interning there. I felt like the video was very over dramatized I guess you could say.. like there wasn’t enough serious elements to make me wonder too much about the company. I also feel like more information could have been included about the house, but at the same time I also see how you are trying to draw the viewers to the company website. Good job for a first try for sure. Far better than anything I would have produced.

  4. Questions:

    1. If you were video marketing for your particular job (or dream job) would you take a comical or serious approach in your videos? Why?

If I worked within video marketing for a company my overall approach to making the video would be based upon who my target market is as well as what I was marketing. Ultimately to attract the viral attention of a younger market I would utilize a comedic approach, but for more serious matters a serious approach.

    2. What benefits does video marketing have over TV/radio marketing? (besides the ease of sending)

Video marketing will be viewed by customers due to their personal interests and social network. Unlike commercials on television in which are hardly ever watched due to Tivo and DVR.

    3. In reference to the video I posted, did this make you more or less interested in finding out more about this home and real estate agent?

Actually this posting really had me interested in wanted to learn more about the home in general. Even without the comedic approach simply advertising the home in the manner that you did by showing the consumer details of the home, it actually enticed me to want to see more because the home in itself was beautiful.

  5. If I created a video market campaign for my business, I would lean toward a serious approach because I'm trying to attract the clients who have established themselves already. However, if I were to target a younger audience, I would definitely lighten up a bit, infusing a bit of comedy.

Video Marketing gets to the people who want to see it for a lot less money than making a television commercial, so therefore it most likely has a higher rate of return per dollar spent.

As a previous home buyer (multiple times), I was not impressed with the video. I have no interest in finding out more about this home or the real estate agent. However, I do think that it may actually be attractive to the younger, first-time homebuyer.

My only advice is to check the video before you post it. The one thing that bothered me the most was the difference in volume level from music to speaking. I had to constantly change my volume level. Not only does that irk me, it makes me think twice about the company--How long have they been in business? Why couldn't they hire a professional to create this video? How well known and liked are they in the community?

Other than the volume comment, I thought the video was cute. I had a few questions and comments that would concern me if I was an agent, but not as a buyer, so I left them out.

  6. I think I would use a little of each approach depending on the product. Marketing online is more visual than using the radio and using the internet allows the consumer the view the video when they choose rather than catching pieces of an ad while changing channels. This video would make me more interested in buying a home if there was less commentary from "Miss Sparkles" and more details of the house with background music. I think this would be a good way to showcase homes and entice buyers to come out and see the home in person.
