so this is my article, :
Most Desired Brands by Gender: Women Are From Amazon, Men Are From Geico
its an interesting one- this company Buyology does a 6-year study on US brands to figure out theb
uying patterns of the consumer. they listed the top 20 brands that were desired by women and another list telling the top20 brands desired by men. The article is not that long and i think it's fun to see if your favorite brands match up with your gender... =)i thought it was interesting that they could figure out brand loyalty based on the gender and how some of these companies were targeting certain genders (like SONY with women). Some of the top brands for men were surprising to me... like Tide and Hallmark...
?:
-> are there any brands on the list that you are loyal to? {mines= Amazon.com/ford/sony)
->any brands on this list shock/surprise you?
->do you think brands are doing a good job reaching their target demographic(based on the list)?
letmeno if you have ?-comment -Concerns~

What an interesting article! I found that there were several brands on the list that I am extremely loyal to..Google, Amazon and especially Crest. I did find it a little funny that Kleenex is #3 on the women's list. Probably the most surprising to me was General Electric on the women's list
ReplyDelete1) I am not particularly loyal to many brands, but I am loyal to my shampoo and face wash.
ReplyDelete2) I found it interesting that the brands women are loyal to seem to connect with children, such as Disney, Target, Tropicana, and Johnson & Johnson. I also found it interesting that the brands that the men were loyal to pertained to their own personal benefits (Panasonic and Geico) and some with his wife (Hallmark and Bed Bath & Beyond).
3) I think the brands are doing a decent job reaching their target market, because the list seemed pretty accurate according to gender.
1. I did find many brands on the list for woman that I am loyal to (Disney, Target, Tropicana & others but I'm not going to list them all).
ReplyDelete2. I was shocked by GE, Toshiba, Microsoft and Sony just because you usually think of men as more targeted for electronics companies.
3. I do think most of those brands for both the men and women do good at targeting their markets. Especially too some of the brands that appear in both lists have different advertising for each gender for example: Ford. Ford has lots of truck commercials showing manly men to target the men and other commercials for Escape and Focus that target women.
guys these are great observations~ casey it didn;t cross my mind about the bit about how most of the female brands are children based... yeayea glad you guys enjoyed the article!~ lovas.. anna*
ReplyDeletethere are a few brands that I'm loyal to, but most of them are farther down on the list (target, tropicana, etc). I was surprised to see National Geographic so high on both the female and male list. The list for females seemed to be related to up-keeping a household/family where as the males were loyal to many car and electronic brands. I also found it funny that Bed Bath and Beyond was on the men's list but not the women's.
ReplyDeleteI tend to go with Proctor and Gamble products which is not even on the women's list. I do love Target though! I go at least once a week. Very interesting article.
ReplyDeleteWow. This article was a little shocking for me. I guess I don't realize the intensity of marketing- that a company could actually develop strategies to target a specific gender.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly I do enjoy many of the brands from this list (Kleenex, MasterCard, Google, Amazon, Target, etc). There are also a few brands that seem out of place on this list that I would not consider my favorite (National Geographic, Ford, General Electric, etc). Based on this list I would say that these companies are doing a good job of marketing in general, to be listed as either genders top 20. However, I also wonder if these companies are actually using gender-specific marketing approaches.
>I saw quite a few on the list: Target, Amazon, Disney, Crest, Visa, Microsoft. My husband on the other hand wouldn't have picked any from either list. He more of a Chevrolet, DeWalt, Remington, Carhart kind of guy.
ReplyDelete>I was surprised at the list for men. I figured their would be more "manly" brands. I mean Bed, Bath & Beyond...really??
>I think the list for women was right on target. The fact that Walmart was not on the list did not surprise me at all. I for one dislike Walmart the most and have recently vowed to never buy anything from there again! Disney and Target were a given due to the fact that women are the one's doing the shopping for the children. Women are also deal seekers and Amazon makes sense for that reason alone.
When looking at the top choices among females I did not see any connection in my personal preferences of brand names. However like someone else previously commented I tend to commit to products for makeup, shampoo/conditioners, and other hair products. I tend to stick to only one certain brand that I personally like and works for me and do not stray from using any other products. However, if I receive a product I would never buy myself through a gift or free sample I will try them and have found that I sometimes start using that certain brand because I preferred it over the current one I had been using.
ReplyDeleteWhen choosing between whether to shop at target or wal-mart I am not persuaded by commercials or adds I always go to the store that is closest to my location. I like convenience over brand name. If target and wal-mart happened to be directly across from one another I would choose the one that was the most convenient upon leaving the location the go home. I base my shopping around traffic ironically!
