Crowdsourcing Examples

We talked briefly about crowdsourcing in class, but it is becoming a more common way for marketers to include consumers in developing product ideas.

I found a new blog that has a segment on crowdsourcing.

What do you think of these examples?

Is this an effective way to create solutions by including consumers?

  1. This blog was fascinating! I didn't realize we had taken crowdsourcing to this level, but I found myself intrigued and adding a few of these websites to "my favorites".

For example, I love the idea of using the crowd to come up with logos and graphic design. It is beneficial on both sides....the consumer gets their logo ideas from many different minds at their specified price and people can get business easily (instead of only relying on networking, websites, and word of mouth). If you are new to the graphic arts industry, this is a great way to get your foot in the door.

I like the idea of using the masses to create new products, service, etc. It is almost like novelty or personalized items....ppl love things with their initials on them or something they feel they created (Nike ID sneakers, ie).

Of the examples provided I found Galaxy Zoo, We are Hunted, and Tip Jar very beneficial and the best examples of how businesses can collect informative and very beneficial data directly from consumers. In which in certain instances can be very effective when creating business solutions, innovative ideas, getting feedback, and generally testing the market.Utilizing crowdsourcing will allow any business' product or services to be well received by consumers through the use of feedback as a tool to modify the company brand, brand perception, product, or service.

  3. I thought Tip Jar was an excellent way to collect useful advice from a population. My favorite though, was Fold.It. I'm not sure who would want to spend hours playing a game folding proteins, but I guess there are some people out there and if those people want to help find a way to cure AIDS and other diseases, why not take all the help we can get?

I think it's definitely an effective way to create solutions. You can never have to many ideas or opinions thrown into one project. I think it's an especially good idea for smaller companies who just 1 or 2 quick creative ideas. It's weird to think though that everytime you "like" something on facebook or "follow" something on Twitter, you're opinion is being watched, calculated, and used as somebody else's statistic..

  4. CrowdSourcing. So I finally have a voice that will be heard? Wow!

This is amazing. We all comment about everything in life and sometimes wonder why something that came out recently and was soooo good is suddenly gone. Now we can add our comments to the test market and be heard.

This is a wonderful idea. It blows my mind that a science-phob like myself could actually help find a cure for a disease just by playing a computer game!

I am constantly amazed by the ever-changing world technology is giving us.

  5. I did not know crowdsourcing has gone this far. I am very impressed!

I found it interesting what We Are Hunted does, and why they do it. It surprised me how information was collected through people's posts on Facebook and Twitter and such.

I like how this blog showed what each group did and why it was necessary to do so.

I think including consumers is the perfect way to solve solutions because as we discussed in Chapter 10, the power is more in the hands of the consumer not the marketer. If the consumers are happy then the company will do well.

I thought the examples were interesting.

Consumers opinions are important and I do think that finding the majority opinion in most situations is a great way to come to a decision about products/services.

  7. I found these examples very interesting!

I feel like this is a good to way to create solutions. Customers are going to be the ones to buy the product so I they should have a say in it.

  9. I think the blog was very interesting. I liked the one about the author letting people help write his book.I think it is an effective way because this way customers get what they want from help making it themselves.
