As we all know, YouTube has become increasingly popular over the past couple of years. With the enhancement of technology across the board of course the web video era is growing as well. An aspect of this phenomenon that truly intrigues me is the amount of advertising taking place... for what cost? Sure the small ads for companies cost money but what about the publicity of someone such as Justin Bieber... He was not discovered like Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears due to his mother seeing YouTube as the perfect outlet for the young talented Canadian's dreams to come true. At age 12 this original video of him singing "You Got it Bad" by Usher caught the eye of music mogul, Scooter Braun who later became his manager. As his videos quickly gained hundreds and then thousands of views the pop sensation just kept adding videos. Today his songs frequent the top billboard charts and his name is worth millions. For a website to launch such a career we must look at how popular its corporation truly is. Business Insider states that "The latest data from comScore says YouTube served 12 billion video views during November, up 137% year over year." With that being said, it is safe to label the social impact this internet trend has left. The sites most popular users have not had to pay for their names to become well known, better yet in May of 2007 the revenue was shared with it's top 13 video posters. Now today we can find over 10,000 frequently visited channels including one named, "Speakers Corner", that won the George Foster Peabody Award for its promotion of democracy. The popularity this website has created is not coming to an end by any means which will only leave us to watch for more stars like Biebs and the other positive advertising that this flourishing website has created.
