The first time I watched this commercial it really made me think about the amount of waste being produced by plastic bottles. I am guilty myself of getting a bottled water from the drink machine instead of investing in a reusable container. But Brita does a wonderful job of creating this guilt while watching the commercial. The scenery is gloomy and sad. It makes you feel the need to buy that filter so you can decrease the amount of pollution.

1. After watching this did you feel guilty about buying bottled water or do you use already use a reusable container?
2. What was the most intriguing to you about the information given?
3. Did you feel like the tone of the voice used and the scenery helped their marketing strategy?
I generally use a reusable water container, but I am really picky about water taste. If there is not filtered water available to fill my water bottle with I would much rather buy a water bottle. This commercial makes me feel a little guilty about this, but not so guilty that I would never buy another water bottle. The thing that was most intriguing about this information is that we used enough water bottles to stretch around the Earth 190 times. That's a lot!! I didn't realize it accumulated so much. I think the tone of the voice was very successful in conveying the message in an appropriate manner. The voice is serious, but not too harsh so that it offends people. Overall I like this commercial and as soon as I get my apartment I do intend to buy a water filter so I don't have to buy bottles of water :)
ReplyDeleteI try to use a reusable water bottle. But I agree with Maggy if there isn't filtered water around I will not hesitate to use bottled water. My question about the water bottles stretching around the earth 190 times is why aren't those water bottles recycled? Used for something else? I know Styrofoam is not reusable but I thought plastic was. So, that definitely intrigued me...
ReplyDeleteI think the tone of the voice was very serious about the issue which catches peoples attention and gets them serious too. So, overall I think the commercial was effective.
1. I do tend to use bottled water when I'm out and about but at home I use the water from my fridge. I did feel a little guilty about using bottled water and I've been thinking I should switch to a reusable water bottle but this made me see more of a visual as to what plastic bottles are doing to the planet.
ReplyDelete2. Like Jane said, I thought plastic bottles could be recycled (I recycle all of mine) so I am a little intrigued about finding out why plastic is so bad if it can be recycled.
3. The tone of the voice helped a lot because it was so serious and sounded like it was scolding you a bit for using water bottles. The visual also helped because you see all the bottles stretching around the world and it puts into perspective the idea of trash everywhere you go.
I do not purchase bottled water since I have a Brita filter at home. Plus I think it is ridiculous to pay for water.
ReplyDeleteI think it is crazy that we use that much bottled water in order for it to circle the world that many times. Also you would be surprised at how many of those bottles end up in the ocean. This can effect the ocean and wild life and cause much more damage. If people are going to continue to drink bottled water they to make sure the recycle those bottles properly.
The voice sounded ominous to me. Like something bad was just around the corner. In reality something bad is around the corner if we can not start disposing of our trash properly.
I am a water snob. If it's not cold or filtered, I won't drink it. I've even trained my pets to be water snobs. Really. They started refusing water from the tap and requesting Brita water! I've stopped keeping the Brita in the fridge once the pets hopped on board. I make sure the filter in the fridge is always up to date too so my ice is filtered as well.
ReplyDeleteI still can't see spending a dollar or more for a water bottle, so I'll opt for the DC. I do buy water bottles to keep at home to take when going out. Sadly, my kids litter the neighborhood with the bottles because they're more convenient that an plastic cup of Brita. So I'm always stuck shelling out a dollar or more for a DC where ever I go. One day my kids will grow up and realize what they have done.
I was not able to upload the video.
I try to use a reusable container as often as I can, but I will not drink tap water. I cannot stand the after taste from tap water and will buy bottled water any day before drinking tap water. It does make me feel a little guilty, but I do recycle all of my water bottles because I know how much damage making plastic can do to the environment, so not enough to make me stop buying bottles of water. I think the tone of the voice worked well in persuading someone to use the brita pitcher instead of waisting plastic. I really like the bottles going around the world to show how many are being used. I think the part when the bottles are in the water floating give kind of a guilt trip like buy bottles is littering.
