An "Elevator Pitch" is a concise, carefully planned, and well-practiced description about your company that your mother should be able to understand in the time it would take to ride up an elevator.
"I noticed you were interviewing with Karen Mishra today at our company. What's your background?"
"Hi (shaking hands), my name is Lauren Dawson (pause briefly for the other person to return their introduction)."
OK, now the clock is ticking. You have thirty seconds...
"I will be receiving my business degree in May from Meredith College and have been working in the construction field doing both customer service and sales. I'm currently seeking a sales position in the Raleigh area, which is what I was discussing today with Karen. What is your role within the company?"
*What do you think?
*Can you put one together for yourself?
*Would this be helpful to you as your search for internships and jobs?
i think that this is interesting.. and i do think that having something like this could be very useful and handy to have when you are searching for internships and jobs... its a form of 'getting the word out there'. your making connections~
ReplyDeletei think if i followed the paragraph you have up there dr.mishra then i could do it....
"Hi my name's anna edwards
In may i will be getting my degree in fashion design from meredith college. Im currently looking into internships with american designers, which is what i was discusiing today with Dr. Mishra. What do you do?"
I think having an "elevator pitch" is very beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI do believe that I could come up with one if I needed to.
I think it would be very helpful as one searches for internships and jobs. It sums everything up quick and to the point.
I think this is very interesting. I think having an "elevator pitch" could be beneficial as well. I do think I can come up with my "elevator pitch". and it would be useful with jobs and internships as well.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could be confident and prepared enough to have an "elevator pitch" but I am not one to put on the spot and I would surely mess up. I think my words would get jumbled.
ReplyDeleteLuckily I have done the elevator speech many times in business and accounting courses at Meredith. It is very important in business to have a good elevator speech; you have to make a good impression. This is your chance to pretty much brag about yourself; market yourself. I have one and it has gotten me a long way in networking myself; I have received offerings from some companies to apply to one of their positions.
ReplyDeleteI loved talking to random people at the court house where I frequented during my last job as a runner for a law firm. In fact I received multiple connections in having my picth down to "Hello I'm Jaquelin Jenkins, I plan on attending law school in 2012 and would love to continue working with the justice system as a career." I definitely had some variations of those lines but most importantly staying confident is key to making an impression on someone. I also believe that being professional will score you major points as well.
ReplyDeleteI think I could do an “elevator pitch” for myself:
ReplyDelete“Hi my name is Christina Klimvakis. I will be receiving my business degree in May from Meredith College and have been working in the electronics industry doing both customer service and sales. I’m currently seeking a sales position in the Raleigh area, which is what I was discussing today with Karen. What is your role within the company?”
I think this could be helpful, it sums up everything and it is short sweet and to the point.
I actually prefer any presentation, pitch, paper, etc. to be clear and concise (which consequently, makes it shorter). If I were to do this myself, it would go as follows:
ReplyDeleteHello, my name is Amber Woody. I am currently back in school at Meredith College to get my BS in Interior Design and plan on finishing next December with honors. I am currently looking for an internship with a local design firm to gain experience and learn all I can from designers actually in the field.
"I will be receiving my accounting degree in May from Meredith College and have been working in the accounting field doing administrative work, preparing individual, partnership, and corporate tax returns, and bookkeeping. I'm currently seeking a accounting position for a CPA firm in the Raleigh area, which is what I was discussing today with Karen. What is your role within the company?"
ReplyDeleteThe elevator speech tactic I believe is an important part in marketing yourself to the public. It could be helpful to gain knowledge of internship or job opportunities that might persist now or in the future and also allows you to connect with your community.
However, upon graduation I already have a job lined up but if something were to happen and this opportunity no longer was available for me they elevator speech would definitely be extremely beneficial to me.
*What do you think?
ReplyDelete*Can you put one together for yourself?
*Would this be helpful to you as your search for internships and jobs?
I think that having a elevator pitch is very beneficial especially when an individual is trying to get a job or internship. In a sense a cover letter actually includes somewhat of an elevator pitch after the overall introducution.
I feel pretty confident in creating an elevator pitch. My only concern is whether the pitch is effective enough to catch the reader or listeners attention.
I think having an elevator pitch is very important. You never know who you are going to meet/where you are going to meet them, so it's beneficial to have something like this memorized and ready to go. I've never had to do one for myself, but part of working in Admissions is having an "elevator speech" ready for when we meet students at college fairs. When we interview new counselors we give them 25 seconds to summarize Meredith. While it was a lot of pressure in the interview, I found that it is something we use because we never know how long we'll be able to talk to a student.
ReplyDeleteI think an elevator pitch is very important because sometimes when I talk to new people, especially ones of higher authority that could possibly be in my future, I tend to get a bit nervous. Starting off with the elevator pitch will make me more confident because I already know what to start off saying.
ReplyDeleteI have created an elevator pitch before, but I might tweak it a little bit so it is more effective in the business world.
This will definitely be helpful to me as I enter the business world and are looking for internships. Like I said before it will make me feel more confident.
