Have you heard of these product failures?

Here is a website of product failures.

Have you heard of any of these?

Did you ever try any of these products? If so, what did you think?

Have you ever loved a product and then found it was discontinued? What did you like about it?

  1. 1. I have only heard of New Coke, Pepsi AM, and the Sony Betamax.

    2. I have never tried any of these products. Some of those I can see why they were failures. Especially the Kellogg Breakfast with the warm milk...yuck!

    3. I have had a product that I loved been discontinued, Vanilla Coke. I love Vanilla Coke because I grew up going to this old time pharmacy in Durham (that's no longer in service) and had fountain cokes with vanilla flavoring. Then we found an old time pharmacy in Chapel Hill (Sutton's on Franklin Street) that also serves vanilla coke the old way. When Coke came out with vanilla coke to buy I was so excited because the drug store in Durham had recently closed. I was also excited because I could have it all the time instead of just occasionally as a treat. Even though the taste wasn't the same as the drug store way it was still good. When they decided to discontinue it I was so upset because I would have to go back to getting it the old fashioned way (which is from Sutton's which is a good 25-30 min. from my house). I know that they've brought it back but I have not been able to find it anywhere so I only get it a few times a year when I go to Chapel Hill. If anyone knows where to get in the Triangle please let me know! :)

  2. 1. I had only heard of the delorean and new coke.

    2. I have never tried any of them, but I wish I had tried the Coors water!

    3. A product that I absolutely loved and is now discontinued is Amazing Fruits gummy bears. I have a slight obsession with gummies to this day, but my absolute favorite gummies growing up was Amazing Fruits. I loved how fruity there were-- nothing compares to this day! As a child I was always rewarded with a trip up to the store to get a bag of Amazing Fruits. When I found out they were discontinued I got online and found a vendor that still had some and asked my mom to buy all he had as my birthday present-- 6 pounds (12 LARGE bags). Best present ever!

  3. The only one I ever heard of was New Coke

I never tried any of the products. Personally, I’m not a Coke fan, so those never really caught my attention. I think my favorite is the Bottled Water for Pets. Who would buy bottled water that tasted like beef or tangy fish…eww!

I used to buy Japanese Cherry Blossom body wash, spray, and lotion all the time from Bath and Body Works. I loved the scent; not too strong, not too weak. All of a sudden they decided to change something in the ingredients and changed the scent; wasn’t a big fan of the new scent. Then about 6 months later, they stopped selling it. Now they one that called just Cherry Blossom and it does not smell anything like the original one I always used.

They also had a spray lotion that my mom used to always buy and loved it. It worked so well with her skin and she did not like the think lotion they sold in the bottles. They stopped selling that too and now she can’t find it anywhere.

  4. The only product I have ever heard of was the New Coke.

I have never tried any of these products but honestly I can see why some of them were discontinued. Pet water? Really?! Some of these products just made me laugh and I can't even believe some people would buy them.

I can not recall any product that I have used that was discontinued.

  5. I have heard of the New Coke and the Smokeless Cigarettes, but I feel that I have seen them in kiosks at the mall.

I have never tried any of the products. All of them seemed pretty strange and not something I would be willing to try. I feel that most people felt that way so that is why these products were discontinued.

I cannot think of a specific product that I have used that has been discontinued, but one of my favorite restaurants (Japanese) closed down temporarily, but I have to say it was hard to find another Japanese restaurant that I really enjoyed. I feel like I would have the same trouble if one of the products that I use would happen to be discontinued.

  6. The only product I have heard of was the Smokeless Cigarettes, but I think that is only because my mom purchased one recently. I am sure it is much improved from the one on this list though.

Obviously never hearing of the products I have not tried any of them.

I find that any bra that I like at Victoria Secret usually gets discontinued.

Something I thought about when I saw the Cosmopolitan yogurt....I saw recently on the news that Cosmopolitan was coming out with a men's magazine. I wonder if that will sell? They said the reasoning behind it was because men made up quite a bit of the population that bought or read the traditional Cosmo.

  7. I heard of New Coke, but have always been addicted to Diet Coke, so luckily I personally missed that blunder. But I know my sister gave up coke permanently with that one. Now she lives a happy soda-free lifestyle.

I remember the Betamax of the 80s. Some of my friends had them while we had the "cheap" VHS. I could never tell the difference when it came to watching. Lesson learned: Latest, greatest, most expensive is always going to win in the long run.

Discontinued products: Clinique has discontinued several products I used to rely on heavily. Now I no longer shop Clinique. Ben and Jerry's is always discontinuing flavors of ice cream. My all time favorite was "From Russia with Buzz." I was pregnant with my youngest. When my favorite Chinese restaurant closed in the early 90s I was devastated. My sister's favorite perfume that smells of lily of the valley, discontinued (thankfully!). I'm with Brittany on the Japanese Cherry Blossom soaps from Bath and Body Works, what were they thinking???

Discontinued goes further than the naked eye can see: discontinued IBM Selectric Typewriters; discontinued phones that plug into the wall and keep you tied there. Of course there are things we will be forever grateful that have discontinued: Clunky computers and cell phones that weighed eight pounds or more.

  8. I mentioned this in class, but the only product I can think of that I miss was the pita sandwiches that Wendy's had when I was in high school. I'm not sure why they discontinued them, because I knew many people that liked them as well.
From the list on the link, I only recognize the clear Pepsi. I remember this coming out and thought it was a great idea (I think I was in elementary school at the time, however), but it did not last long. No one could figure out the reason for making it clear...what purpose did it serve?

  9. Maybe I just live in a shell, but I have never heard of any of these products featuring on this website. Maybe I do live in a shell or maybe that’s just a good indication of how bad these products failed. The only product that I can even think of that I used to buy that isn’t sold anymore is popcorn chicken from KFC. I was a little sad that it isn’t sold anymore, but not that much because I didn’t really go to KFC that much in the first place. I guess I never really thought that a product that is released might fail.. I guess I just thought more research and development would go into making the product in the first place. Guess not.

  10. I have never heard of thse product failures, except The New Coke that Dr. Mishra mentioned in class. I have never tried these products either. I've never really had an experience where an item I really liked was discontinued. I guess the only real experience would be with Vera Bradley with their discontinuing patterns alot.
