A Juicy Contradiction

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BtVkI8ddLCg&feature=youtube_gdata_player
The video I choose for this week is the new Starburst commercial, which is hilarious to me. In this commercial you see a dog that is a complete contradiction to what a normal dog should be. This goes along with Starburst's slogan "a juicy contradiction."

1) What do you think of Starburst's new commercial?
2) Do you think their commercial will make people want to go out and buy Starburst?
3) What could they have done differently?

  1. i think that this video is great for those who love starburst, have a sense of humor, and things like that... i thought it was ok..... i guess i was a little bit preoccupied by how the dog truly felt he looked really uncomfortable..... and it looked odd to see a dog like that..

ugh... i think this really only appeals to fans of starburst and kids... maybe.... who knows it didn't make me want to go out and get some!

ummm... for me (becasue im crazy) its the whole animal thing... made me uneasy... but then again im sorta cynical to any commercial with animals that have to do things they don't naturally do are in them...
    thanks tabitha!

  2. I love this commercial! It is a little slow but I actually listened to what they were saying compared to other commercials that I purposefully tune out due to their fast pace.

This new slogan of a "juicy contradiction" is bright because even though I have eaten starburst for quite some years I have never thought about how it is solid yet watery. The research that went into coming up with this marketing strategy must of taken sometime but I have a feeling it will be well worth it!

The dog was not that cute and it apparently pulled someone into a burning building... The comparison of starburst and a burning person is not what I would want consumers thinking of if I worked for StarBurst. The atmosphere was a little dry as well as the voices of the actors. I would not have done this commercial that way but then again I believe that it was the slowness that made me want starbursts after watching it.

  3. I think this commercial goes great with their slogan. It is different, but it doesn’t makes me want to go out and buy some Starburst. I think I would have used a different concept than with a dog that is a complete contradiction to what a normal dog should be.

  4. This commercial is great on so many levels! When I saw the tagline, before seeing the commercial, I couldn't understand how they would relate "a juicy contradition" to Starbursts. How are Starbursts a contradiction? By using the dog as an example of a contradiction and then comparing it to the Starburst (as juicy and a solid), it all became clear. And, they are right! Of course, adding humor makes viewers remember the commercial, and consequently remember Starbursts. I also love that they chose a familiar face (the driver is "Skipper" from Sex and the City), which also helps us remember the ad. And, of course, the dog and the concept of the dog sticking its butt out of the window and liking cats is histerical...the delivery really made it!

  5. I'd seen this ad on tv a few times, but they never show the extended version (this one) and I never found it that interesting. When they play out the whole thing it's actually funny. I don't know if this would actually entice someone to go out an buy Starburst.Personally it didn't sway me either way. I would make the commercial flow a little faster so that it gets to the entertaining part faster. I think this would help keep the views attention.
