Take the VALS Survey

Since we didn't get to chapter 6 last Monday, take this VALS survey before we meet this Wednesday.

1) What do you think of the survey?

2) What do you think of your results?

3) How can you use this information as a marketer?

  1. I thought the survey was very interesting and notice a repetition in some of the questions. As far as my results, I think that are right on target. I have done many leadership surveys to at organizations to understand myself and so far they have all say the same this this survey said, dominant.

If I were a marketer, I would use this information to my own personal benefits in teamwork. I think by understanding the type of person I am and how other types of people can be, I can work better with diverse groups and communicate more effectively.

  2. I really like taking surveys because they give me insights about who I am! haha! As far as my results go, they were pretty on point. My results were an experiencer and a striver. I really liked getting these results because both explanations described me pretty well. I think this survey is a great idea because it can show people who they are and how they operate. Some people either don't want to know or are in denial about who they really are. If they take time to take the survey it could better help themselves as far as understanding and working better with others.

  3. I liked this survey because it gave you insight as to who you are as a consumer. I think my results were somewhat accurate. Marketers can use this survey to see what consumers they are targeting or want to target and how to target them.

  4. 1. I usually don't like taking survey's about myself but this one was pretty short, although it was really repetitive.

    2. I was really surprised at the results of the survey. There were certain things that were accurate or how I would describe myself. Some of it make it seem like I was very materialistic which I'm not. I do like to plan events and host cook outs for friends and family. I don't necessarily focus on buying things for myself.

    3. A marketer would use this information to decide which people to target for certain brands. Clothing brands would choose to target those who are focused on the latest fashion. Travel companies would focus on those who are likely to seek adventure.

  6. I liked the survey--I tend to like surveys like that are close ended--I like to get straight to the point. I did feel like some of the questions were repetitive as well--they were essentially the same questions reworded. I felt as though my results were very accurate. My #1 was Experiencer, which is full of energy and focuses on buying new and cool stuff. I am slightly obsessed with technology, so I spend a lot of money on all of the new gadgets that come out. My #1 was Innovator-- new ideas and technologies. Bingo! I think a survey like this is very useful for marketers in targeting people based on interests.

  7. The survey was short and I noticed repetition as well. I know extensive surveys use this method to look for inconsistencies in your answers (such as the MMPI).

I will say that even though the number of questions was minimal, my results were fairly accurate. I am considered an "Experiencer" first and an "Innovator" second. Both describe someone who is take charge, likes change (especially creating it), and cares about their image. I would agree that for the most part, this describes me. And, it fits in with the previous test we took in class in which I was a green- someone who imagines the possibilities and likes to create. If a marketer wants to reach their target buyer, they would want to appeal to the "Experiencer" and the "Achiever", both of which care about self image. Knowing more about their personality and what makes them tick will help them design good marketing strategies.

  8. I liked the fact that this survey was short but it was repetitive at times. I am considered a Striver and an Experiencer. The striver is a person who is trendy, fun loving and motivated by achievement. The Experiencer is someone who is motivated by self-expression, enthusiastic, and impulsive consumer. I would agree with some of the information the survey said about me but not all of it. I really don't consider myself that impulsive when it comes to most purchases, especially if they are large purchases. I do however spend a good amount on socializing and doing fun activities.

I believe this would help marketers by knowing what type of consumers they have and designing marketing campaigns around them. For instance, If you tend to have impulsive buyers place items in clear sight that you believe these people will impulsively buy.

  9. I really like this survey. I felt that it was pretty accurate on what it said about me (an experiencer and achiever). I always love to try new things and meet new people, and I feel like I am pretty enthusiastic as well.

I think this is a great tool for marketers because it helps them see what type of person you are. Also, if a certain company has a particular target market, they can look at the majority of those people and find a common characteristic to help try to sell their products.

  10. This type of information can be used to help determined what certain people type is to relate what interest they have to be able to market to them. I think my results fit my type of personality well. My VALS results are experiencer and innovator. I think the survey is really interesting. I really thought it was going to be really long, but it wasn’t.
